Research

Investigation & Research 2

  • The goal was to come up with our own clinics catered to our professional track. We had to decide who were going to be our key players, come up with a starting cost and salary for each employee, services provided, and target of concerns and populations.

  • We chose to design a Mental Health Clinic “Saving a Mind” located in a rural population. Our mission was to help others with developmental issues with caring, support understanding, and productive members within their communities.

Investigation & Research 3

  • The goal of this experiment was to isolate the bacteria Bacillus from soil using phenotypic and genotypic techniques.

  • Only 0.1% has been successfully cultured, the problem is that when trying to isolate the soil there will be other unknown bacteria.

  • We had to research background, how it works, and come up with a working protocol to isolate the Bacillus

Biochemistry

  • The goal was to purify LDH from chicken breast using different biochemical techniques.  At the end, I had a crude extract of all proteins, a sample purified by desalting (precipitating) a portion of proteins, and a sample containing only oxidoreductases (using NADH as a coenzyme) purified by affinity chromatography.

  • We studied the enzyme activity of each sample by combining a buffer, substrate (lactate), NAD+ and enzyme in a cuvette and measuring the production of NADH via spectrophotometry.
